My Top Ten BTS Songs

I’ve been an ARMY since Epiphany released and I haven’t looked back since.

It’s been a year and a half, and while I don’t keep up with everything BTS*, I manage to know the highlights. It’s the only band that I’ve consistently been following. Usually, I move on to others pretty quickly. So yes, BTS is damn good.

*let’s be honest, it would take every minute of every day because there is SO MUCH happening with BTS. That’s not counting the backlog of BTS things to be updated on.

I’ve been wanting to make a post about my favourite songs by BTS for a while now. I just want to talk more about these AWESOMESAUCE songs, okay?! And I’m totally inviting more discussion and fangirling about BTS.

EPIPHANY

My #1 song by BTS will ALWAYS be Epiphany. It’s the first song by them which I REALLY liked, even though I had heard a few before. Epiphany’s lyrics, tune, and Jin’s voice sealed the deal for me.*

I highly recommend this song if you haven’t heard to it, even if you don’t like BTS or Kpop. Read the lyrics as well. I love the self-love in it.

*fun fact: Jin is also my bias. He has always been, and I’ve just liked him more and more from the beginning.

SPRING DAY

If you’re an ARMY, I think you will agree with me that Spring Day is on every ARMY’s top ten songs. It’s too good a song. It gives sad feels, nostalgic feels, hopeful feels, and some other feels that I can’t even name. I get into a specific mood every single time I listen to it, and I NEVER get bored of it. Spring Day is a must-listen BTS song, in my opinion.

CRYSTAL SNOW

This song, y’all…. what a great song. If you don’t know, this is a Japanese song by BTS. And IT. IS. BEAUTIFUL. I could cry. What a great song. I don’t have words for it.

LOVE MYSELF

Another song about self-love like Epiphany, but with much different vibes. It’s very hopeful and cheery, and I just love listening to it. It never fails to make my mood better. Love Myself is the song to listen to every day just to set the mood of the day. It adds a spring to my step, I kid you not.

JAMAIS VU

This is a song from BTS’s latest album Persona: Map of the Soul and it’s just B E A U T I F U L. I love the vocals, and I even love the rap. I’m not someone who usually likes rap but they way BTS raps alongside the vocals is so nice. I became obsessed with Jamais Vu right from the first listen.

DIONYSUS

I won’t lie, fast-paced songs are usually not my favourite. Even if I do like them, it’s short lived. Mellow songs are more my type.

That said, there’s something addicting about Dionysus and I CAN’T GET ENOUGH. Every time I’m remotely in mood for fast paced songs, I listen to this. It hypes me up so much lol. I feel ready to take on the world after listening to it. I feel badass.

HOLD ME TIGHT

I actually didn’t like this song much the first time I heard it. I even played this on Superstar BTS multiple times and didn’t become attached to it. But then one day, I suddenly found myself singing it and I couldn’t recall it’s name! I typed the lyrics on youtube and got it, and that was when I started liking it. It barely took a few listens for me to love it.

Now, I absolutely love the song. I’ve taken to listening to it after Crystal Snow.

RUN

The only other fast-paced song on my favourites is Run. I can’t tell you why, but I just love it. Right from the video showing the friendships and BTS’s alternate universe story, to the beats, to the lyrics. I love it.

everythinggoes

This song is part of the album mono by RM, one of the members. First of all, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS ALBUM’S THEME?? The vibes, the titles with only small letters and no spaces and the tunes… wow. RM is brilliant. He’s my #2 BTS member.

Second, I just love the hope given by this song. Everything goes, everything will be okay. What a wholesome song. I listen to it whenever I need a slow pick me up. Just something to get me through the day or night.

BUTTERFLY PROLOGUE VERSION

I like listening to this right before sleeping. It always makes me calm and slows me down, which is perfect for night time. I also listen to it when I want to cry or when I’m sad, because that’s the exact vibe of the song.

Bonus favourites!

Yes yes I know I said 10 but there are a couple more songs that I just HAVE to mention. They deserve it.

Young Forever with the sad, regretful, and yet hopeful vibes. Perfect for millenials lol. I resonate with it so much, even without the lyrics. Just the tunes and the voices. The melody. I love it.

This is a SAD song. I usually only listen to it when I’m sad or about to cry, because it evokes those feelings in me. And it’s not a good idea to listen to it when happy haha. I love the lyrics, though. The melody, the rap and the lyrics go so well together.

And those were my top ten BTS songs!

Favourite Book Tropes!

Hey y’all!

I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday post, and this one is really good! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is Favorite Tropes (a trope is a commonly used theme or plot device).

I don’t have 10 favourite tropes so I’m going to talk about my 6 favourite tropes, in order.

[1] Best Friends to Lovers

I absolutely LOVE this trope. It’s adorable to see characters who have known each other for years and truly know each other, develop feelings and deal with it. I love this trope the most because it obviously has proper relationship growth, and it’s the farthest thing from insta-love.

Recommended books:

[2] Hate to Love Romance

On the other hand, hate to love romance trope is the most hilarious and engaging. It’s very entertaining to see the characters exchange insults and hate on each other and, due to some situation that throws them together, end up falling in love.

Recommended books:

[3] Fake Dating

I think you can understand from my top three choices that I’m a huge romance junkie. I really enjoy romance books.

Fake Dating is another highly entertaining trope. It’s also very swoon-worthy. Two people decide to fake date to achieve whatever goals they each have, and end up truly liking each other through their “dating”.

Recommended books:

[4] Secret Baby romance trope

So, this is one that I somehow ended up liking after coming across it in a book. After that, I just went on trying to find more books with this trope.

The secret baby trope is essentially: two people fall in love and/or sleep together. They separate for some reason and the woman finds out that she’s pregnant. Either she can’t contact him, or she decides not to. Both of them are still in love with each other, though. Years later the man finds out and everyone has to cope with the situation. This brings the man and woman closer again as well. It’s also super cute to read about the babies/kids.

Recommended books:

[5] The Cinderella trope

Although I haven’t read many books that do this well, I just really like the idea. I always have. I’ve watched every Cinderella movie and tried to find good Cinderella books. Even though I’ve read only a few, I still love this trope.

Recommended books:

[6] Hero hidden away from the magic world

This is just so cool to read about in Fantasy books. A hero who thought they were normal suddenly find out that they’re meant to do great things and get thrown right in the middle of a revolution and/or a war. Great stuff.

Recommended books:

And those were my favourite tropes!

Life Update // it’s finals time

Hey everyone!

It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged freely. It’s been only reviews been review and properly structured posts for a while. Back in 2016, I used to make random posts and just blabber, and it felt so freeing!

Ever since I started thinking about polishing up my blog posts and putting up only good content, I’ve started blogging less since I’m putting more effort into every post. I’ve also stopped posting rambles, which is kinda sad because this is one of my favourite things about blogging.

The whole reason why I refused to highly niche my blog is because I loved the aspect of just posting whatever I want. Whether it is books, bullet journalling, kdramas or even life updates. And I’ll be honest, life updates are very cathartic* to write. I don’t mind the thousand words I sometimes write because it flows effortlessly, and it’s the only type of blog posts which I don’t always structure.

By not writing these posts, I also miss out on cataloguing so much of my life. I sometimes go back and read these personal posts and become nostalgic because I’m pretty much writing down the important things. I want to keep writing so that I can come back and read about these days again.

This post is going to be completely non-structured (meaning, I’m just gonna type and not rearrange later) and I’m just going to talk about what I want to, even if I digress.

*If you haven’t ever written a personal blog post where you’ve just typed without worrying about how it looks etc., I highly suggest you try it at least once. You don’t have to publish it, but just write it.

Random thing #1

First of all, I’m so glad that I’ve FINALLY FIGURED OUT how to properly format using HTML on the Gutenberg WordPress editor. I’ve tried before but I never took out the time to experiment and try a bunch of things that I may want to use.

I sat down to write a review on An Ember in the Ashes the other day and I wanted to try a new reviewing format/structure because I’d been using the same format for a long time. I also wanted to format and play around with colours. I spent almost an hour just playing around and experimenting. It took a long time to write the review but it looks really good and I’m super happy with the result

literally me after I figured out everything I wanted to.

Random thing #2

My favourite colour has officially changed from blue to pink. Blue has been my favourite colour for over three years now. At some point, my wardrobe was 3/4th blue. Everyone around me teased me about it. But for the last few months, I’ve been gradually picking pink over blue. Right now, I’m blindly just going for pinks even if blue is available. I’m especially loving pastel pink, light pink and blush pink.

It’s been a while since I had a change of favourite colour so I think I’ll enjoy this! I got this really cute light pink hat recently and I just want to wear it ALL. THE. TIME. I love it.

Random thing #3

My finals are here! Well, almost. My first exam is on 14th June and even though I have only 6 exams, my uni has stretched the dates so that my last exam is on 3rd July. That’s three weeks of JUST STUDYING. I will be feeling guilty if I do anything else for three weeks. It’s gonna be fun.

shaking head gif

I will most likely be super tired and stressed by the end of it. I also may not be able to blog much, and that’s sad because I just got back to blogging semi-regularly. Sigh.

Random thing #4

My body is giving me SO MANY PROBLEMS. Can it stop already?! At this point, I don’t want to do any tests because with every test, I find out there’s something more wrong with my body. And I’ve done a lot of tests so far.

Let’s put it in a list to make it easier:

  1. Last I checked in Oct 2018, I had mild hyperthyroid. I went for an ultrasound scan for my neck last week for something else and they told me I should probably test again because it looks more. I was taking mild medication so far but guess I’ll have to go on proper meds now. I’ll also have to test again. Argh.
  2. I did a test for immunity and we found out that I have Hashimoto’s disease which is an autoimmune disease/disorder. My result was so comical. The normal range for something was 0-156 and my result was 1.7k. My result was over 10 times the highest normal result. I could not believe my eyes. So yeah, I’ve gone on a strict gluten-free diet* and I’m taking meds for it too.
  3. Recently, a swelling has formed on the side of neck and after doing a bunch of tests**, we’ve found that it’s a cyst. It cannot be cured with medicines and I have to do a surgery. But, because it doesn’t give me pain, it’s purely cosmetic but if I don’t do a surgery then it might keep growing and also could get infected. Infection is bad, obviously. It’s apparently due to a birth defect and the swelling doesn’t appear normally, so I’m one of the lucky few for whom it does! Since I have finals now, we can’t do the surgery but maybe after finals.

*considering I’m not allergic to gluten but that I have to abstain by CHOICE is making this SO HARD. This diet cuts down 70% of foods that I eat. Because I’m Tamilian, it’s slightly easier to bear with at home since our foods are mostly rice items. But I really notice the difference when I’m out with my friends. I just watch them eat. It’s sad. I’m sad. I’m most sad about BHATURA and puri (Indian foods).

**I did an ultrasound scan for the swelling and they told me my thryroid increased. I want to focus at one problem at a time! And take fewer meds! LEAVE ME ALONE *cries*

Those were the three main things. Other than that, I have a bunch of allergies, PCOD and severe eczema which comes and goes. So yeah, I’d like another body please.

(Yes this was a rant session. At this point, I can rant for HOURS about my health issues. I needed to rant though.)

Random thing #4

I’m slightly stressed about next semester already. For Indian engineering students, year 4 is CRUCIAL. We get jobs then. We have to write a lot of tests, sit through interviews, and also attend classes, study and write exams. I’ve got to start studying for my exams for the jobs (we have aptitude and technical tests to show how smart we are and… I’m not smart). Aah. I want to scream.

The grind has to start right after exams because interviews start right in the beginning of August. And by beginning, I mean day 1. I’m preparing for the stress by stressing already so I can get used to it. (I’m trying out a new coping method, let me be.)

Random thing #5

I’m finally exercising regularly! I’ve been doing this for a few months now and I can feel the difference. I’ve been taking it slow, though, with small milestones but I’m doing it regularly and that’s all that matters.

Getting a workout in every evening after college was hard in the beginning because I would be super tired from the long day and travel. I also kept evenings as my “chill time” so I would read blogs or watch YouTube while drinking something. But I managed to make it routine and it’s easy now.

At this point, if I don’t go exercising in the evening, I feel off for the rest of the night. It’s weirdly energizing and refreshing too! I’m also glad that I somehow got rid of my self-consciousness which held me back from running in front of people before.

Random thing #6

I’m LOVING Jay Shetty’s podcast called On Purpose with Jay Shetty. I started listening to it on a recommendation from a friend and I immediately liked it. I haven’t been able to take out time regularly to listen to it but the episodes I have listened to, I’ve learned from.

There are always multiple things to learn or take from every single one of his podcast episodes. Even though it’s just audio, I find myself completely engaged in listening and absorbing.

I was dutch braiding my hair and listening to an episode last night as “self-care time” and I LOVED IT. I listened to the podcast at midnight and after that I was so energized and motivated to change my life immediately. To change for the better using what I’ve learnt in just half an hour. I couldn’t sleep so I ended up studying more for my upcoming final.

If you want to become motivated or energized, I definitely suggest listening to his podcast. Especially, listen to an episode which is not an interview because those episodes are solely focused on giving you advice and things to take away and apply immediately.

Okay that’s it.

I just checked the word count for the first time and I’ve written over 1.5k words. Wow. When I stop thinking twice about what I write—whether it’s easily readable, whether it’s attractive and engages the reader—words flow so freely. This is a form for self-care, for me. I needed this.

If you’ve read so far, THANK YOU. You’re the best ❤

Okay now YOU tell me. What’s going on in your life? And don’t hold back from rambling in the comments 🙂

10 things that make me pick up a book

Hey everyone!

There are many different factors that contribute to us picking up anything, be it clothes, books, stationary item etc. I never really thought of what makes me pick up a book until now. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is things that make you pick up a book and it made me sit back and think about why I pick up books. I’m really looking forward to reading other bloggers’ takes on this as well.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

The 10 things that make me pick up a book are, in order:

[1] The cover

Book covers make a HUGE impact on how we see the book. Whoever says that they never judge a book by it’s cover is lying. All of us like aesthetic and beautiful things, whether we want to be that way or not. At this point, I accept that book covers play a HUGE role in me picking up the book.

If the book has blue or pink on the cover, I’ll at least give it a second glance. If the book has a pretty font, I’ll consider it. If the book has cool art on the cover, I’ll pick it up.

The cover makes a lot of difference for the book.

[2] The author

I’m way more likely to pick up a book by an author who’s works I’ve liked or an author who is very popular in the book community.

I picked up My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella in the bookstore immediately even though I didn’t even know the book existed, nor did I know it’s synopsis. I bought the book because I know I’ll like any book by Kinsella.

In another instance, I had to choose between Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli at the bookstore one day. After a few minutes of deliberation, I went with the latter, just because I knew Albertalli and I’ve heard a lot about Silvera.

Hence, the author matters a lot.

lady midnight picture
I bought this because it’s my Cassandra Clare but it’s cool cover doesn’t hurt (:

[3] If it’s recommended by a friend/someone I share favourite books with

I always consider recommendations, especially if it’s a real life friend. Even if I don’t read the book immediately, I at least add it to my TBR.

The two people whose recommendations I take highly are Maiti and Nisha, two of my friends in real life. Maiti once recommended Every Day by David Levithan, which I hadn’t heard of, and I read it immediately. I really liked it! So yeah, I trust readers whom I’m close to.

[4] The hype

I don’t always fall for the hype, and even if I do, it’s not immediately. But I do try out the popular books to see what’s so great about them. I’ve read many great books this way, and I’ve also read books which I hated.

The hype is a funny thing. Sometimes I really wonder why everyone absolutely LOVE a book, and other times I totally understand and add to the hype.

In conclusion, the hype matters. If a book is really popular, I’ll at least see it’s synopsis in Goodreads.

[5] The Synopsis

This is obvious. It’s so low in my list because the synopsis isn’t always written well. I’ve seen a TON of romance books which have synopsis written like:

~name~
I saw her.
I loved her.
She broke my heart.

I hate such synopsis and it turns me off so bad. There are many books whose synopsis is just random sentences that don’t give any clue to the story. There have been several instances when the synopsis has turned me off the book.

Synopsis matters but only when it’s written well so that I know what the book is really about.

open book with tabs

[6] Reviews by bloggers I follow

I’m very picky about who’s opinions I trust, though. Only if there have been many books in common between me and the blogger do I really consider their reviews. Other reviews make a smaller impression on me. I actually check out the books on Goodreads and add them to my TBR if I trust the bloggers.

Bloggers who’s opinions I take into high consideration:

[7] Blog listables

This is similar to #6 but just a little different. I really like reading listables and usually get most of my TBR books from the listables. And by listables, I mean posts such as “My favourites books of 2018”, “My top 10 Romance books” etc.

No matter the blogger, I always like seeing their listables posts and check out books from the lists that catch my eye.

When I’m looking for listables, I usually just go through Top Ten Tuesday posts. This blogging meme is my favourite listing meme.

[8] Blurbs by other authors

If the book I’m considering has been blurbed by an author I like, I will at least read the synopsis and consider adding it to my TBR. My favourite authors will have great taste which matches mine, right?

I would immediately pick up a book if it has been blurbed by:

  • Victoria/V.E. Schwab
  • Penny Reid
  • Sophie Kinsella
  • Cassandra Clare
  • Colleen Hoover
A Darker Shade of Magic, and Warcross

[9] Negative reviews

Some times when I think the book is getting TOO much love and that it’s too good to be true, I look for negative reviews on Goodreads.

This actually makes a lot of impact on me. If the issues pointed out in the negative reviews won’t bother me, I go ahead to read the book. It has even happened that I’ve picked up books just because there are so few negative reviews, but strongly-worded ones, so I can see whether the negative reviews are right.

[10] If it’s on sale

This usually doesn’t influence me to pick up new books, but it has happened a couple times. I would only do this if there aren’t any books that I want on sale or if I have money to spare.

What makes you pick up a book? Do we share any? Tell me in the comments! Also feel free to link your TTT posts 🙂

Fake It Till You Break It // Can’t Wait Wednesday

Hey everyone!

I’ve never done a Can’t Wait Wednesday post because I usually just read books according to my mood. (I’m a huge mood reader.) But recently, an unreleased book caught my eye and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings to share the books that we’re waiting for.

Fake It Till You Make It by Jenn P. Nguyen

Mia and Jake have known each other their whole lives. They’ve endured summer vacations, Sunday brunches, even dentist visits together. Their mothers, who are best friends, are convinced that Mia and Jake would be the perfect couple, even though they can’t stand to be in the same room together.

After Mia’s mom turns away yet another cute boy, Mia and Jake decide they’ve have had enough. Together, they hatch a plan to get their moms off their backs. Permanently. All they have to do is pretend to date and then stage the worst breakup of all time—and then they’ll be free.

The only problem is, maybe Jake and Mia don’t hate each other as much as they once thought…

I found this book on the waiting list of a blogger (I forgot who) back in January. I just love the synopsis so much that I want this book RIGHT NOW. Since the time I found out about it, I’ve checked it’s release date at least 4 times until now.

Why does this book appeal to me?

  • It’s a hate-to-love romance!! It’s one of my favourite tropes!
  • The book has meddling moms. It’s always funny when family meddles in teenagers’ love lives.
  • It’s the first YA contemporary in SO LONG that has really appealed to me. The others that I’ve read this year have had a unique thing about each of them, such as focus on #BlackLivesMatter or autism. It’s been a while since I wanted to read a YA book just for the romance.
  • The story contains a fake relationship! Everyone knows how fake relationships end. It’s a trope and yes, I like it.
  • IT’S GOING TO BE SO CUTE I JUST KNOW IT AND I WANT TO READ IT RIGHT NOW.

Fake It Till You Break It releases on May 28th, 2019.

Is there any book that you’re waiting for? Tell me in the comments!

They Both Die At The End || hello sadness

Title: They Both Die At The End
Author: Adam Silvera
Genre: Contemporary
Category: Young Adult
Series info: Standalone
Goodreads

Synopsis:

On September 5th, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: they’re going to die today. Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but for different reasosn, they’re both looking for a new friend on their End Day. The good news: there’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure – to live a lifetime in a single day.

my-review-lightuptheshiningnightstars

I have got to say, the hype held true. I have heard SO MUCH about Adam Silvera that it is not even funny anymore. It’s as if I knew his books even without reading them because of all the talk.

I saw this book with a discounted price in a book fair that I went to, and I HAD to get it. Doesn’t the book sound absolutely fun?

Just kidding, I love sad stories.

The Plot

The book mainly follows Mateo and Rufus, who get a call saying that they will be having an untimely death in the next 24 hours. And then they freak out, as expected.

Through the app The Last Friend, they find each other and agree to spend their End Day together.

The book follows their entire last day through issues they have, memories they try to make and whatever else they encounter.

First of all, what a good concept. Death-Cast is a really intriguing idea. It would change the game and the way the world worked. Imagine if you had the chance to make amends with people, say proper goodbyes and fulfill at least one thing on your bucket list.

You would have a chance to work on the regrets and change things, at least a little.

I really liked the plot. It made a lot of sense and I liked how Silvera went about the book with the characters.

The book is told from multiple perspectives. We see mainly from Mateo and Rufus’s point of views but we also see small chapter of other characters. While it’s informative about the world and shows other perspectives, I did not like reading about other characters. It just interrupted in the main story and I did not care about them at all.

No matter how we choose to live, we both die at the end.

Mateo Torrez

The title tells the ending. I thought I was ready for it, but I wasn’t.

I did like how the ending went though, writing-wise. My heart was broken by the end, BUT IT WAS GOOD.

The book also ended quite abruptly, as you would expect if the character died. It left me at a note where I was in a book hangover. I couldn’t stop thinking about the book for the next day, at least.

The Characters

Yo so I LOVED MATEO AND RUFUS.

I did not really like Rufus in the beginning, was just okay with him, but he grew on me! I like that. He had character development through the book and I liked him more and more.

Rufus is the guy taking pictures of everything and posting them on Instagram. He literally documented their End Day on his Instagram. Capturing moments is his thing.

Mateo is a precious cinnamon roll. He sticks to his dad and best friend, does not interact with anyone else and prefers books over the outside world. As a result, he has practically no experiences or memories of the outside world.

He’s shy, heavily introverted and TOO GOOD. He’s too pure for life. He cares about everyone, stranger or not. Mateo even buries a dead bird lying on the street because he feels bad for the bird.

Mateo and Rufus are complete opposites and they helped each other grow on their End Day. They influenced each other and it was really cool to watch.

Much like Rufus can’t expect me to be instantly brave, I can’t expect him to be instantly generous.

Mateo Torrez

I also quite liked some of the supporting characters. Namely Lidia, Mateo’s best friend, and Penny. I just loved Lidia’s infant daughter Penny. She’s so cute and lovable. Aaah.

Rufus’s foster brothers were really cool as well. The three are a unit and it was a proper beautiful friendship.

Overall

I really liked the book. It made me think, gave me feels, was a new concept and didn’t disappoint. Apart from the extra point of views from random characters, I liked everything.

Definitely recommended if you’re hesitating to pick up this book due to the hype. It’s really good, y’all.

I Believe In A Thing Called Love || such a cute book

I believe in a thing called love

Title: I Believe In A Thing Called Love
Author: Maurene Goo
Genre: Contemporary
Category: Young Adult
Series info: Standalone book
Goodreads

Synopsis:

Desi Lee believes anything is possible if you have a plan. That’s how she became student body president. Varsity soccer star. And it’s how she’ll get into Stanford. But—she’s never had a boyfriend. In fact, she’s a disaster in romance, a clumsy, stammering humiliation magnet whose botched attempts at flirting have become legendary with her friends. So when the hottest human specimen to have ever lived walks into her life one day, Desi decides to tackle her flirting failures with the same zest she’s applied to everything else in her life. She finds guidance in the Korean dramas her father has been obsessively watching for years—where the hapless heroine always seems to end up in the arms of her true love by episode ten. It’s a simple formula, and Desi is a quick study. Armed with her “K Drama Steps to True Love,” Desi goes after the moody, elusive artist Luca Drakos—and boat rescues, love triangles, and staged car crashes ensue. But when the fun and games turn to true feels, Desi finds out that real love is about way more than just drama.

my-review-banner

I got onto a Kdrama kick about a year back and while the obsession levels have gone down in the past few months, I’m still fond of Kdramas.

So when I read the synopsis of this book, I was hooked in. After keeping it in my TBR for a while, I finally read it and I’m so glad I didn’t leave it idle in my TBR.

the plot

I love the concept! Desi Lee takes inspiration from the Kdramas that her dad loves to make a formula to love. And to be honest, it’s accurate! I’ve noticed all those deductions of hers in all the Kdramas I’ve seen.

She believes that by following the formula, she’ll win the heart of a new boy whom she’s heavily crushing on. Plans and schedules have always worked for her, so it should work even to get a boyfriend.. right?

All the Kdrama references gave me life. I’ve seen most of the Kdramas that are mentioned in the book so it made it all so much more relatable. The book is a YA version of romance Kdramas, in a sense. It has all the elements and is super cute.

the characters

I really liked Desi Lee. She’s endearing, adorable and relatable. She has worked hard to get to her current position in school and to achieve so much. She has everything—except a boyfriend.

While a little misguided at some points, because some parts of the steps to love were kinda out there because Kdramas are dramatic, she tried her best.

The relationship between her and her dad was adorable. I liked their relationship and their dynamics.

The book is majorly about Desi but we do see quite a bit of Luca, her crush. I liked Luca. He seemed to be the perfect counterpart for Desi and I could see them together right from the beginning.

Luca is a calm and collected person, which is exactly what I picture someone like Desi to be with. Desi is, while organized in all parts of her life, actually a mess. She’s awkward, clumsy and not suave at all. So Luca and Desi were perfect for each other.

what I did not like

Kdramas are dramatic. That’s how they are. The “steps to love” is actually ridiculous in real life. Desi did not think about skipping some questionable steps and just went for it. I didn’t like that she wasn’t rational sometimes, even though it made for good plot.

At some point, the author gives a spoiler about a really good Kdrama, Descendants of the Sun. I hated that because if I had read the book without seeing the Kdrama, I would have been pissed. So if you’re going into the book and you love Kdramas, please watch DotS first so you don’t get spoiled.

overall

The book was like an adorable mess. It’s chill, entertaining and promises a good ending.

I recommend it to Kdrama lovers and if you like adorable YA books.

BTS Burn The Stage experience

Annyeong everyone! I’m starting this blog post as I watch Melon Music Awards on another tab, where BTS has already won 3 awards. I think it’s safe to say that I’m now an ARMY, although I still don’t feel like I’m one because there’s so much about BTS that I don’t know.

I know this post will take me days to finish, and I’m still excited to write ALL THE THINGS. Also warning: this is going to be a long blog post. You might want to free yourself for a little bit. #sorrynotsorry

Burn The Stage is the documentary of BTS’s Wings tour, which took them all over the world in a year. It contains behind the scenes, random fun the boys have, their hardships and their wins, and also exclusive interviews.

In all honesty, the experience was a wild ride. And only some of it was the actual movie.

bts picture 1.

When my friends and I found out that India will be one of the countries to see Burn The Stage, we were STOKED. This was the first time Indian ARMYs got recognition. There were so many ARMYs who immediately started saving up money for the tickets, which we expected would be a little expensive at least.

The movie was acquired by INOX theatres and the booking was all online. For the movie, to be released on 15th November, the bookings was supposed to be on 4th November. And the worst part? The plan was to show only ONE screening of the movie in SELECT cities.

This was nerve-wracking because there are TONS of ARMYs and my friends and I planned on being on the website at all times that day to grab tickets ASAP.

But the movie was not listed online that day. For the next few days all ARMYs were anxiously checking the INOX website, slowly getting discouraged. Would we even get to see the movie?

bts accepting an award.

A lot of people started spamming INOX on twitter and the official BTS India Instagram page reached out to them as well.

Eventually we got a reply that the movie had still not gotten cleared from the Indian censor board. We were ENRAGED, guys. As it is, the Indian censor board doesn’t have a good reputation.

On November 15th 2018, all Indian ARMYs saw the rest of the world watch and react to the movie while we still didn’t know if we’d get to watch it. And all we could do was continue spamming INOX, but stopped that as well once they told the official Instagram page that they’ll update once they have any news.

Since everyone was bashing the censor board, they released a statement that they didn’t have any problems with the movie. The reason it was getting held up was because of insufficient documentation and they requested blurring of an alcohol label in ONE scene.

The movie finally got cleared, though. The tickets were released on 19th, first for Delhi. The second the news got out, everyone who was free went online checking for their cities.

I was home, thankfully, studying for an upcoming test when one of my friends called asking my confirmation to book the tickets. But by the time she got back to me, telling me to book with my card, the servers of the website were overloaded. My friends and I kept refreshing the website but after selecting the movie and the show, we got errors. I encountered at least three different types of errors.

shocked face.

And just like that, within 10 minutes, the show sold out. We had 1 show in 1 mall on 25th, and it sold out. Needless to say, my friends and I were SO DISAPPOINTED.

We gave up but later we found out that ARMYs who kept refreshing the website for hours and kept checking found seats. Due to many people being online at the same time, servers crashed and free seats were marked blocked.

Hearing this, my friends and I went back online and kept refreshing. While we were doing that, I saw ANOTHER mall in the listing with one show there. I freaked out, my friend called me and told to book there IMMEDIATELY.

I tried and after refreshing a few times (because the servers got overloaded then as well), I finally saw the screen to select the seats. By then most of the seats were already booked. Since we were 4 people going together, I selected whatever 4 seats I saw together, which was the second bottom row, and clicked next. My heart was beating FAST. I kept hoping that it won’t cancel on me.

After I entered my card details the first time, it didn’t go through and I was asked to do it again. I knew that if I tried again from the start, I won’t get tickets. But thankfully it only told me to enter my card details again.

At this point my hands were shaking so much. I could barely type. Right after I finished typing the card details, the card slipped from my hands but I did not care.

It took A WHOLE MINUTE to process the payment, during which I was worried as heck. But I finally got the confirmation and I stared at it for at least 30 seconds, checking if it’s real.

I GOT THE TICKETS! Right as I called my friend to let her know, my phone switched off. (It does that sometimes, just switches off when there’s too much going on in the phone.) I was thankful that it, at least, didn’t crash on me during booking.

I called her after I connected my phone to the charger (and retrieved my card from under the sofa) and told her, and even she took a couple seconds to register what I said. I was still shook from the experience of just booking the tickets. My heart was beating really fast as if I ran a kilometer but my brain was not registering much beyond “I got the tickets”.

Good thing too because later I found out that the show I got tickets for sold out in two minutes. TWO.

My friends and I calmed down and went on to study. That night we found out that INOX kept adding shows all over the city. I think they were waiting to see the response before adding more shows.

They even added a show near our area, which would have been so much more convenient! We got tickets for an 8pm show in a mall which is over an hour away from us. Of course since they added more shows, the chaos of exchanging and buying tickets online between ARMYs ensued. And there was a lot of it.

We didn’t exchange though. We didn’t want to take the risk.

jungkook suspended in air at a concert.

Now that there were shows and enough tickets.. all the planning started. It’s the first time ever that there’s an official BTS thing happening in India and everyone wanted to make it special.

Everyone made whatsapp groups for all the malls. My friends and I found and joined the one for our mall as well. Only a fraction of all attenders found the whatsapp groups, but it was enough for us to plan things.

In a few days, we decided on the following:

  • Everyone would wear purple ribbons to signify that we’re ARMYs.
  • We would take videos and document our experience as part of a nation-wide GCF project.
  • The dress code was black and purple, if not BTS merch. (Not many stuck to that though)
  • Some people were selling posters and fanarts.
  • One person was selling postcards of BTS pictures, which we had to pick at random without looking. (I got two photos—one of Jin, who is my bias, and one of Jimin.)
  • One girl was making glittery purple heart pins for everyone who shazamed Waste It On Me.
  • My friends and I got some badges made with the BTS and ARMY logos and sold them. (I’m kinda proud of our badges, not gonna lie.)
one of the badges we made.
this is one of the badges we got.

Some ARMYs had also planned on flash mobs and dances (which we got permission for in prior) but it couldn’t work out due to state mourning of a sudden death that day.

We also sang Magic Shop, Two! Three! and Epiphany before going into the theatre.

Right before the movie we did the ARMY fanchant in the theatre, we tried an ARMY light wave and took videos.

All-in-all it was a big day.

Now, the actual movie?

Was B E A U T I F U L.

The movie went up and down in emotions, in waves. It was serious, nostalgic and somber and then it was joyful, funny and uplifting. And repeat.

The movie was narrated by 4 of the members (we think) and they compared parts of the wings tour to words such as “desert” and “oasis”. The comparisons were so fitting with the meaning of the words and the footage that followed.

The first half an hour I spent with my hand on my heart, not looking away from the screen. I can confirm that I teared up multiple times during the movie.

What I liked best about the movie was that it was real. We saw them having fun, cooking, getting awards and crying out of happiness. We also saw them get injured, practice hard and get bloody tired during a concert. It felt—was—unfiltered.

ARMYs know that the BTS members work HARD. They keep pushing themselves harder and harder, and it shows. The movie just showed more of the work and practice parts of it, which we’ve never seen before.

I didn’t want to blink throughout the movie in fear that I would miss something.

In fact, near to the end of the movie, I started worrying about it ending. I didn’t want it to end. And in that thought process, I missed the last line. The movie ended abruptly, just leaving us hanging, wanting more.

It was beautiful. I fell in love with them all over again.

When I got home, which was at 11pm, I texted my best friend Hema and was telling her everything that happened. And I was still so into the movie that I was emotional. I couldn’t stop talking.

Hema said that she’s never seen me have such deep feelings, and it’s kind of true. I don’t usually feel much for anything other than books and characters that I’ve gotten attached to overtime. And I usually don’t text her when I’m feeling emotional about things. But, I couldn’t help it this time.

For the first time ever I’ve seen so many people who love something dearly gather in one place and do things selflessly. Legit, all the ARMYs were so kind and nice. Everyone wanted to do things for BTS and other ARMYs. Everyone was laughing and smiling, and talking about BTS and how BTS matters to them.

Some ARMYs stood at the entrace of the 8pm show theatre and gave out these tiny photos of BTS with the date and time written below. Bless their souls. That small thing made us all so damn happy.

the small picture they gave.

And during the movie, everyone was pin drop silent. I’ve heard of other places where ARMYs kept screaming at random moments and disturbing others but that didn’t happen for us. We made sure to tell everyone to keep quiet. We were all united and despite me only talking to my friends and not really socializing, I felt like I was still with everyone. And I’ve not been a fan for as long as most of them.

Here are some texts that I sent Hema. I’m just copying and pasting them here because they exactly show how I was feeling then.

[11:47 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: I can’t.
[11:47 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: It’s so unbelievable.
[11:47 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: And BTS are so pure man.
[11:48 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: They kept talking about pushing harder than they can almost bear because one day they can’t do this even if they want to.
[11:48 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: They spoke about how much energy the ARMY gave them.
[11:48 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: That in concerts etc just seeing ARMY’s eyes light up, seeing them, was enough to give them energy.
[11:49 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: They spoke about how they’re all very unique but through the years grew together.
[11:49 PM, 11/25/2018] Hem: Omg
[11:49 PM, 11/25/2018] Sumedha: They’re not themselves anymore.

And then after that I still had so much to say so I gave up typing and just sent her a voice recording. I was already emotional and TALKING about them got me to cry in the recording. I legit could not speak without sniffing and my voice wavering.

The movie was THAT GOOD. It was so emotional. Even now I’m becoming emotional just thinking about it. I’m very close to tearing up again.

They spoke about how they’re not just them as individuals anymore. They’re now part of BTS, and each of them are an integral part of BTS.

We are Kim Nam-joon, Kim Seok-jin, Kim Tae-hyung, Jung Ho-seok, Jeon Jung-kook, Park Jimin and Min Yoon-gi. These names feel awkward. We are now RM, Jin, V, J-Hope, Jungkook, Jimin and Suga.

-Suga, Burn The Stage.
(I’m not exactly sure but the lines were something like this.)

RM spoke about how they still find joy in being with each other, even though they do it all the time.

There are so many feels running through me right now, just by remembering the movie. I’m currently listening to Spring Day because it’s perfect for such moods. It’s also a beautiful song.

(side note: as I’m writing this part it’s December 4th, Jin’s birthday, and Jin just came live. It’s so funny oh my lord, they took Jin’s profile picture to the next level, more than ARMY. BTS and ARMY are all crackheads.)

My friends’ thoughts

I think I’ve spoken enough now. I can keep going on but I better stop now.

I asked my friends to write a little bit about the movie and the experience so I can add it here, just so you know that it’s not just me who is this emotional.

This movie was so inspirational, motivational, and beautiful. It really showed a whole other side of BTS, what pure beings they are that made me love them even more and I’m so so so proud to be an army. I laughed, cried, oohed and awwed along with everyone in the theater and it was such an experience. And meeting the finally found fam(ARMYs) gave me a whole new level of happiness. We are a fam only coz of BTS.
BTS is not just a kpop group. Basically they are THE kpop group. No one has done it like them. They’ve helped and connected with so many people including myself and they are perfectly imperfect. They’re just as beautiful on stage as they are off-stage. I wish I could watch the movie again, it was worth the struggle :”) Never thought I would be so connected with 7 people I’ve never met before. I love them with all my heart and they deserve all the love in this world💜😭

Burn the stage… this movie was wow, seeing the boys on the big screen was a totally different experience, I loved the narration, it really hits you right in the feels, especially when yoongi says “sometimes we see ourselves in the crowd there with y’all”. I mean how beautiful is that. The movie was an emotional roller coaster, like one minute you’ll be thinking “bts is working to death are they really happy?” and feel sad and the next minute its all of them jumping and pushing each other into a pool😂 but the best part about this movie was that it showed how strong BTS is as a group and how much bts genuinely cares for army. We are inseparable.

another bts picture because why not.
Source: btsspain.es

Overall, the movie was amazing. The meetup other ARMYs just made the experience even better. It was one of the best days of the year, for me.

Even if you’re not a BTS fan, I definitely suggest watching the movie because it’s just a documentary which is beautiful. It’s not specifically targeted at ARMYs. It’s worth a watch, ARMY or not.

If you’ve stayed so long and read this bloody long post, kudos to you. And thank you.

Have you seen Burn The Stage? Are you a fan of BTS?

Life Update // rambles rambles my schedule is in shambles

Hey everyone! It’s been forever since I’ve done a life update post, especially since I started doing “The Sunday Post” where I just talked about the past week’s events.

Warning: this post will probably be highly unstructured and is simply like a sit down talk. I’m really in the mood for something casual right now, and don’t feel like drafting it and revising it etc., so yeah.

First, what’s up with my blogging schedule?

I was keeping to my blogging schedule of posting blog posts three times a week for quite a long time. Probably months.

And then fifth semester of college hit me like a truck.

I kid you not, I have no clue what I did this semester and I have no idea why my time management SUCKED SO BAD. I didn’t even really use my bullet journal this time.

I’m so behind on my actual planning that I haven’t even set up my December set up yet. And my setup consists of two spreads only! The carefully curated schedule that I had which managed college, blogging and Instagram crumbled after a mere month into 5th sem.

Now I also really want to rant about this semester

To be honest, 5th sem started off wonky. I was doing an internship which overlapped the first 10 days of college. Hence I missed the first 10 days of classes in August, which immediately put me behind in basics of the subjects.

Then started the chaos of mini projects. I will tell you this, this semester has given so much BT. We did a mini project last semester and the problem statement was our choice. We had to do the same this time as well so all of us tried to pick good ones, especially since we needed to log in at least 20 days of work.

I went a little bit ambitious and took a project that uses Machine Learning. I took it because I started an online course on ML so I figured I can learn and apply it immediately.

And then. We got the news that we had to pick ANOTHER project. By this point we lost our shit.

Turns out the second mini project is actually required by the university as part of syllabus, and we weren’t explained to properly, so all of us boycotted and didn’t choose projects for it.

Only after we realized that it’s the one that’s important did we register with our problem statements and took it seriously. Of course, it also meant that a lot of people did not give a shit about the other mini project then.

It’s hard enough managing assignments, classes, extra-curriculars along with one mini project. We wouldn’t get any sleep if we did two.

But guESS WHAT. I ended up doing both. Which is why my schedule went into shambles.

Side note: this post is taking way too long to write because I’m on discord with my friends jamming to music and this is so nice (:

Okay yeah so, back to the point, I WAS STRESSED ALL SEMESTER. I have no clue how I managed all my subjects plus everything but I did. Which is why my blogging and Instagram slipped, blogging more than Instagram.

This hectic schedule pushed me to finally go themeless on my Instagram and I have to say, I’m having fun with it. I’m posting pictures taken outside, playing around with filters and scenes etc., so at least that’s a good turn.

My reading took a big hit as well so that’s sad. I got into a book slump which honestly didn’t make me upset because I didn’t have time to read/try to read? Yeah well anyway I had to lower my reading challenge of the year to 125 from 150 because I didn’t think I’d make it.

But on the good side..

This semester went pretty well too!

In terms of me socializing I was MUCH BETTER. I went to a book fair with two people whom I don’t really talk to in real life, I got along better with new people in group settings AND I managed to stay for over 24 hours in an event without losing my shit.

It doesn’t mean that I was completely fine in all settings, but I was better. And that’s good.

I also went to Burn The Stage and managed to not be overwhelmed by all the ARMYs there who had gathered to do events pre-screening.

While I don’t feel that I accomplished much overall in this semester, I did do small things every single week. Enough to make me feel busy. It’s never been this way before so this busy feeling is new, and I welcome it up to a point. If I didn’t feel like going to any more outings, I had no qualms about declining even though I might sound rude so that’s worked out well. I made sure to take breaks when I felt way too overloaded with work as well.

I took so many mental health days, it shows how my semester was this time.

I also had MULTIPLE DAYS where I spent around 10 hours on my laptop, doing my projects, and it put a lot of strain on my eyes. Even with glasses to help with the strain, my eyes, which are already weak as it is, turned completely red for two days after the work.

This is going to be my life later if I get into a programming job, which I’m hoping for, so might as well get used to it. Sigh.

My sleep schedule doesn’t exist anymore

Like, seriously.

I used to have a problem with sleeping in the afternoon until last year. If I slept in the afternoon, I got a headache, so I never did.

But last sem I started sleeping in the afternoons, only very few times, and I needed it so much then that I didn’t get a headache later.

This semester, I’ve been sleeping in the afternoons SO MUCH. Naps are my life right now.

My sleep schedule is: I sleep when I want to.

I have huge dark circles now. They’re ever present. I need to learn to do make up but I’m also scared to try because I have a lot of skin allergies and who knows what will set off a bad reaction. #sadlife

It’s not only me who’s got their sleep schedule messed up though. All my friends have no such thing called sleep schedule anymore. Right now three others and I are listening to music and recommending GREAT songs to each other on Discord, and one of them has a final tomorrow. But this feels so good so he hasn’t slept yet lol, and it’s 12:45am. We’re just listening to music, sometimes talking and sometimes not.

One of the friends, who has the exam tomorrow, said that things like this will be what he’ll miss once we leave college. And I agree. Another told that we can still do this but realistically, all of us will be busy and will mostly not be able to do this. Not only that, we might also not be in the mood for the same music. In fact this is the first time we’re doing this.

Right now we’re in sync and this is GREAT. I don’t mind staying up all night and listening to music like this, blogging or reading a book with it. Things like this make me grateful that I found really good friends. I was so worried when I joined college, about whether I’d get friends I’ll get along with well. And in first year, I didn’t. I kept drifting between friends and groups. I had lost expectations to find good friends to stick with but in third sem, I made a few and then I made a few more.

yay nice picture of my friends and I

Right now, I’m in a really good place where I actually text first and seek out conversation with them. And I feel lucky for this every day because I know what it’s like to not have friends and feel alone.

I have a feeling quite a few of the songs we’re listening to will make it into my “songs on repeat” post at end of this month. We’re listening to SO MANY GREAT SONGS. And I love that they’re loving the songs I’m recommending. It’s a great feeling when others love the things you recommend whether it’s books, movies, songs or anything else.

Speaking of me recommending..

I’ve got TWO people who don’t really read books to read this semester! One of them asked for a recommendation and I lent her Girl Against The Universe by Paula Stokes and she really liked it! I’ve given her The Hating Game by Sally Thorne now, which is one of my favourites of this year. Hopefully she finishes reading it soon before I find time to sell back books.

The other person is a friend I’m more close to than the previous person. She has borrowed a book from me before but she’s too busy in her life and doesn’t find the time to read. She gave the book back without reading a word. This was MONTHS back.

Recently, now that I’ve gotten into BTS as well, we’ve had many conversations about fans, influence, stardom etc. And for the first time it went really deep and we spoke for HOURS recently. Funnily enough it happened when we skipped the last of our labs because no one felt like attending.

So we were talking and I was drawing parallels between ARMYs and the fans of “The Arc” in the book I Was Born For This by Alice Osman. I had read the book when she and another friend first got into BTS and were totally obsessed with them, and I wasn’t. So I was telling her about all the similarities and she wanted to hear more so I ended up telling her the summary of the book.

She liked it so much that she asked me for the book because she wants to read it, and she’s hooked. She’s been loving the book so far and she’s less than 1/4th in because of her busy life. But I’ve seen a few of her annotations (and she has MANY) where she just marks things similar in real life with BTS and ARMY. I’m so proud seeing her reading a book finally.

oh hey it’s me in my natural habitat.

Okay I think I’ll stop here.

It’s 1:13am, all of us are still on Discord and the songs have gone into ones with more chorus and raw emotion instead of the hard and fast beats that we started with. We might transition into sad and nostalgic songs if we don’t stop soon lol.

I’ve written 1.7k words wow. Too long. Better stop.

What’s new in your life? Are you stressing out or having fun with friends? Let me know in the comments!

10 backlist books I want to read

It’s been a long time since I’ve last done a Top Ten Tuesday post. I just haven’t the time to write a detailed TTT post.

I have a LOT of books on my TBR, and since I’ve hauled quite a books this year, I have several unread books on my shelf already. But for the sake of this post, I’m going to talk about 10 backlist books on my Goodreads TBR, which I don’t own yet.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s topic is backlist books I want to read.

i believe in a thing called love[1] I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo

I believe found this in a wrap-up post on a blog I don’t remember recently. Or it was a book recommendations post. One of them.

The book is about a girl called Desi Lee who believe that anything is possible if you have a plan. She’s accomplished in every department other than love. So one day, armed with all her Kdrama knowledge and her idea of love, she sets out to fall in love. Throughout the book she finds out that real love is more than just drama.

Doesn’t that sound really interesting? I really hope I get to read this soon.

Add it on Goodreads.

books blogs and reality[2] Books, Blogs and Reality by Ryan Ringbloom

I’ll admit, I added this to my TBR immediately after reading the title. It sounds like everything I’d relate to.

This book is about four bloggers and them dealing with life, reality, anxieties, their happily-ever-after dreams and much more.

It just sounds like something where there’s character growth, lessons learned and really nice anecdotes so I really want to read it.

Add it on Goodreads.

extremely loud and incredibly close[3] Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer

I have no idea about where I found this book online but the second I read the synopsis, I knew I had to have it on my TBR.

The book is about 8 year old Oscar who is a mix of everything like many kids are. When his father dies, Oscar finds a key in his dad’s closet. The book shows him setting out to solve the mysteries of the key which takes him on an epic journey.

Goodreads.

the afterlife of holly chase[4] The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

I really like Cynthia Hand’s books so when I saw this, and read the blurb, I knew that I have to keep a lookout for this book.

Holly was visited by three ghosts telling her to mend her ways and she didn’t listen, so she died. She just watches her friends and family move on while she’s stuck at seventeen, but this year something changes.

The blurb is very intriguing, and this book follows a GHOST. That’s enough for me.

Goodreads

the love letters of abelard and lily[5] The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily by Laura Creedle

This book is about Lily, who has ADHD, and Abelard, who has Asperger’s. The two teenagers bond over their love for ancient love letters and end up falling for each other.

It’s a basic YA contemporary but with two teenagers who are a little different.

Apparently it’s a heartbreaking story and I’m all up for that.

Goodreads.

stranger than fanfiction[6] Stranger Than Fanfiction by Chris Colfer

Imagine that one day you just invite a celebrity you love for a road trip with your friends and THEY ACCEPT.

This book shows Cash Carter who takes up the offer to go on a road trip with four fans. On the road trip, the four fans find out that they don’t know everything about the star they love.

I’ve read other books about celebrities but it was always romance-related and didn’t include platonic relationships. I think this will have platonic relationships forming between Cash and the fans so I’m looking forward to read it.

Goodreads

salt[7] Salt by Nayirrah Waheed

This is a poetry book and one of my favourite YouTubers highly commended it and recommended it so I added it to my TBR.

It does not have any blurb on Goodreads so I can’t say what it’s about. I’ll just read it and let y’all know after.

Add it on Goodreads.

words on bathroom walls[8] Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton

I was on a roll, trying to find books that featured characters who struggle with a mental health problem.

This book deals with a teenager called Adam who has schizophrenia. He sees imaginary people.

The book shows him using a new drug that helps him ignore his visions and lead a normal life. He starts crushing on this girl called Maya and does not tell her about his diagnosis. Later the drug starts failing and he tries to Maya from knowing his condition.

Add it on Goodreads.

beautiful mess.jpg[9] Beautiful Mess by Claire Christian

This was recommended to me by Goodreads because I liked Letters to the Lost, I think?

It’s about two teenagers dealing with grief. The main character is Ava who is in a constant rage mode after losing someone. She meets Gideon, who is also dealing with grief but he deals with it by living in his head. They help each other move on.

Add it on Goodreads.

almost adulting[10] Almost Adulting: All You Need to Know to Get It Together (Sort Of) by Arden Rose

This is a non-fiction that talks about everything I need lol. I cannot describe it better than the blurb, so here is a part of it:

By the end of the book — a mash-up of essays, lists, and artwork — you’ll have learned not only how to dress yourself, how to travel alone, how to talk to strangers online, and how to date strangers (in PERSON!), but also how to pass as a real, functioning, appropriately socialized adult.

It also really hilarious so I can’t wait to read it.

Goodreads

And that’s ten books! Now I really want to get to these books but I’m also currently reading THREE books, somehow? I really need to get my reading in order.

What are some backlist books high up your TBR? Have you read any of the books I mentioned? Talk to me in the comments!

Caught in a web of betrayal, with the future of free will at risk, just how far will Emika go to take down the man she loves?

Note: includes spoilers for Warcross.

Warcross is currently my favourite book. There was no other option with a story so brilliant. So you can guess that I was damn excited for Wildcard. Warcross left us at a steep edge and I NEEDED to know what’s next.

The Plot

Hideo controls 99% of the worlds population through his lenses that go with his game, and most popular invention, Warcross. Emika unknowingly helped him, and is now out to stop him.

But all is not what is seems. After she meets Sasuke, also known as Zero, she is thrust into a completely different world that makes her life way more dangerous than she can imagine. Soon she’s juggling secrets and is out to uncover the biggest secret of them all.

My thoughts:

  • Wildcard was like it’s name. It was wild.

I don’t know what I expected exactly, but it definitely was not what I got. And I’m not sure how I feel about that yet.

  • Emika and Hideo were brilliant, as always. I loved the roles they played and everything they went through.

But mostly Emika. She was still hung up over Hideo, started to find solace in her friendship with her Phoenix Riders team, treaded dangerous waters with Zero and crew, and much more.

I squeeze my eyes shut for a moment and lean my head against the wall, then pull down my mask so I can take in some deep gasps of air. A sheen of cold sweat covers my entire body.

In m next life, I’m going to be an accountant.

(^Emika being RELATABLE)

  • The best part was the amount of plot. I LOVED THE PLOT.

We had so much going on and while there was no real build-up, I could feel it because of the anticipation to see how things will play out.

  • There were some really nice lines talking about life, about moving on and I just love them so much, so I’m going to quote them here.

Every problem has a solution. But after every solution, there’s a new problem to tackle, some new challenge to take on.

It was really fitting, especially for me, where these lines were in the book. I needed them lol.

You accomplish something, and then you shift, ready to accomplish the next.

And now for my most favourite line of the book..

You keep solving one problem after another until you change the world.

  • Another really nice addition was friendship focus and the gratitude for having good friends.

It was brought out through Emika and her team of the Phoenix Riders, who were always there for each other. Emika was a lone ranger but became a team player because of them and is damn grateful for having them. I RELATE, OKAY. This friend love is important ❤

  • One thing I’m disappointed about is the execution.

There were MULTIPLE brilliant bombs in the story. The twists made me gasp in the bus, got me to clutch my head between classes and just blew my mind. But all that was because of what the twists were, not how they were executed.

I think the scenes associating the twists could have been written better and in a way that would emphasize on the new information. Instead, the writing was normal. It took me a second the first time to realize that a huge bomb had been dropped.

  • There were also a couple cliche lines that I could not jump onboard with.

We only get one shot to play the game of our lives.

  • While the plot was brilliant, it was stretched.

I found that book 2 went in a completely different direction than what anyone expected, and to do that, some parts of it was really stretched. I did not like that.

Overall

I really liked it but I definitely prefer Warcross over Wildcard.

I’m also really attached to the world so saying goodbye was really hard. You can ask my friends because they were there when I was near the end and all I was saying was “I cannot believe it’s over, I don’t want to finish it.”

four-stars

Have you read Wildcard yet? What did you think?

P.S. here’s a really nice Warcross aesthetic 🙂

Songs On Repeat // October ’18 edition

Hey everyone! It’s been a whole week since I’ve blogged and I did not even realize until yesterday. Wow I was right about probably being able to blog only once a week. This will probably go on until the end of November, when my classes for the semester end. Sigh.

Anyway, I have quite a few songs for y’all today so let’s go!

There’s No Way by Lauv ft. Julia Michaels

At first listen, it was just okay but later when it came up on shuffle, I loved it so much. Their voices together are really comforting and melodious.

Happier by Marshmello ft. Bastille

I just heard this yesterday and I know that I will be listening to it on repeat for the next few days. I love the song but I love the video even more. Y’all should definitely watch that video.

Waste It On Me by Steve Aoki ft. BTS

This was suddenly dropped on us BTS stans and while I don’t love it as much as I like their other songs, it’s pretty good. It’s the first song with BTS where they’ve sang completely in English.

All We Know by The Chainsmokers ft. Phoebe Ryan

I suddenly felt like listening to this one day and I proceeded to listen to it on repeat for a few days. It’s comforting, talks about not knowing where to go and I really like the music.

Seesaw by BTS

Okay so this song just came up by YouTube autoplay and I LOVED IT. I listened to it on repeat for over a week. I love Suga’s rap. It’s comforting and for the first time I heard him sing a little, which is lowkey comforting as well.

I’ve listened to it enough that I know the lyrics byheart even though I don’t understand them word by word. I like the meaning of the lyrics though.

The Truth Untold By BTS ft. Steve Aoki

This was the first song they did with Steve Aoki and only because of this did I listen to Waste It On Me and had high expectations. I LOVE THIS SONG. I know all the lyrics of this as well.

Just One Day by BTS

My friend made me listen to this because she was listening to it on repeat, and it transferred to me. I listened to it on repeat after that. At the same time I got her hooked on to Seesaw hehe.

Young Forever by BTS

Okay so I LOVE THIS SONG. I like the vibe of the rap and the vibe of the vocals, the shift, each person’s voice, how they all sing together in the end, EVERYTHING. To me, it gives the mood of trying to be young and alive and happy in a negative world.

And that’s all for this month! I really need to go do my project now. See y’all next time, which is hopefully soon.

What are the songs that you listened to on repeat this month? Let me know in the comments!

The Sunday Post // book fair!

Happy Sunday everyone! It is the last day of my long weekend and I’m sad. I don’t want holidays to be over.

I had holidays from Thursday and my plan was to sleep and do my projects during these four days. But I ended up making last minute plans for every day?! Who am I. I’m meeting people, I’m going out, I’m not holed up at home. It’s weird.

But I did manage to blog on both Thursday and Friday! So this will make three posts this week, for the first time this month.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

My tests are done!

I spoke about tests that I really need to study for in last week’s Sunday Post. I had them Monday through Wednesday with two tests a day. Since I was so done with the tests, I skipped the last one and started my long weekend early. Heh.

I can say that the other 5 tests went pretty well, so that’s good!

McD and chill

I met up with four of my close friends from high school. We’re actually a group of six and one person was missing. Ever since college started, it’s been very hard to get all six of us in one place at one time. It’s happened only twice in over two years.

So we had lots of fun! We just ate some burgers and fries and spoke a lot. We also showed each other people we stalk on Instagram, complained about our struggles in college etc. It was a really nice evening.

Bangalore Book Festival

Picture of me taking a picture of all the books.

I found out on Tuesday that there’s a week-long Book Fest/Book Fair in my city and I really wanted to go. A friend of mine got passes and I tagged along with him and his friend on Thursday.

Am I getting better or what! I went with one person I mostly spoke to only online and another person I never spoke to. I’m not so introverted anymore yayy XD Look at me bragging about going out with new people. It’s a rare thing guys.

Anyway the book fair was really nice. We found a lot of second-hand book stores selling books for less prices. The three of us got 21 books in total!

We were so happy and full of accomplishment at buying so many books. We took pictures of all the books to post on Instagram.

I got 9 books for myself. I got:

IMG_20181021_125434_649.jpg

  1. The Shadow of Your Smile by Mary Higgins Clark. I really wanted more MHC books so I looked for them in every stall and ended up getting two.
  2. Stillwatch by Marie Higgins Clark.
  3. That Girl From Nowhere by Dorothy Koomson. I think the best and worst part of the book fair was me looking at all the new books and new authors. New books and authors for me to discover but also very few books that I recognized. Hence I got random new books that sounded nice and few which I’ve heard of/wanted.
  4. The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. The second I saw the book and the cover, I remembered that I have it on my TBR in Goodreads and picked it up. It sounds really nice as well so I’m looking forward to read it.
  5. They Both Die In The End by Adam Silvera. I have been looking for this book for a long time but it’s always out of my budget when I find it. For the first time it was being sold at a lesser price so I got it immediately. I really like the edition I got as well.
  6. I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella. I love Kinsella’s books. This one is my favourite of them all and I’ve been wanting a paperback copy. I wanted a different edition specifically but I’ve given up that it will be available in India so when I saw this one, I just bought it.
  7. The Lie by C.L. Taylor. Another author I’ve never heard of before. The synopsis sounded nice so I bought it.
  8. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’d probably know that this book is one of my all-time favourites. I’ve only ever owned an ebook of this but seeing that it came at a great price, I bought it. I finally have a physical copy!
  9. Thanks For The Memories by Cecelia Ahern. I quite like this author’s work, my favourite being Where The Rainbows End which was later renamed Love, Rosie after the movie adaptation. The synopsis sounded nice, and the edition is pretty, so I bought it.

And those are the nine books that I bought! This is my biggest book haul so far.

I finally got my bus pass

So we have this yearly student bus pass thing. The system is pretty screwed up so it took a long time for the cards to be available. I finally went yesterday and got mine. The process included walking around blindly for an hour without proper directions because no one told properly where to go, then standing in the wrong line for half an hour. I had a sense of accomplishment when I finally got the pass.

This week’s to-do list

rawpixel-550994-unsplash

I think that’s it for this week! I didn’t read much and I didn’t watch anything new. Oh speaking of watching I actually was watching V’s live* while writing this post. I had the left half screen as a browser with the live and right half with this draft open. Multitasking without 100% efficiency but I did both of these things in lesser time together than I would have taken if I had done them separately.

*V from BTS

  • Finish mini project bookrecs at least upto 90%. I actually have to submit it this week, as per my guide, but I have wayyyy too much to do. I planned on almost finishing it this weekend but I had only minimal progress.
  • Finish DBMS mini project completely. This holds more priority to me than the other project.

Huh. Nothing else comes to mind. Oh well, that’s good in a way. I can focus on the two tasks I have.

I’ll see y’all next week with another Sunday Post! Have a great week!

How was your week? Did you go out or meet friends? Tell me in the comments!

What’s In My Bookshelf Tag

I’ve sort of forgotten how to blog. I had a schedule going on until a couple weeks back. Three posts a week—one book review, one Sunday Post about life, and a random post based on what I want to talk about. But life got in the way with over busy schedules and I started to forget to blog.

I finally have a few days so enjoy a few days of posts before I become irregular again haha.

I saw this tag over at The Reading Turtle Duck and it’s interesting so I decided to do it!

Rules:

  • Link back to me so I can see everyone’s answers! (Naty’s Bookshelf)
  • Also link back to the person who tagged you!
  • Name one book for each category; try not to repeat books to make this more fun!

A LIBRARY BOOK

I’m currently not frequenting any libraries so I got nothing for this.

A BOOK YOU GOT AS A GIFT

airman.jpg

Airman by Eoin Colfer! It’s the first ever gift I got from my friends, after I properly friends in 9th grade. They saw me reading all the time, even in class and not talking to them, so they got me a book saying “at least now you can read the book we got for you in class.” How cute.

A CHILDHOOD BOOK

I’ve given off most of the books I had but I believe I still have one in some packed up box. I believe it’s called The Charm Bracelet. I searched on Goodreads and I think it’s the one by Emily Rhodda but I don’t see the edition that I own, which is pick and glittery, in the list? The story seems to be the same, though.

A MAGICAL BOOK

the night circus cover

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. What a brilliant book. Full of magic, mystery, brilliant characters and great concepts.

Click here to read my review.

A ROMANTIC BOOK

an arranged love marriage

Okay so I don’t buy romance books as paperbacks. Even if I do, I read and sell them back to the second hand bookstore I frequent.

It’s also hard for me to remember exactly what I have right now. I’m sitting on the floor in front of my bookshelf but it doesn’t help that after we moved all our stuff back into our home after renovation, I didn’t organize my shelf. All of the books don’t face towards me and I don’t know what I have XD

Okay! I went and searched through all the books. I have An Arranged Love Marriage by Safina Khan Soudagar on my shelf.

You can click here to see my review.

A STEAMY BOOK

A court of mist and fury

Uh.. there are no steamy books on my physical bookshelf because I don’t want to show my mum this stuff that I read, okay? XD It’s awkward.

The only book I have which has steam in it is A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas. I can also saw A Court of Wings and Fury but I don’t like that book so.. yeah.

AN OLD BOOK

IMG_20180629_225523_948.jpg

I’m going to consider old as “old copy” so I’m saying The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It’s pretty old and because I’ve lent it so many times, it’s pages have also started to come off. Sad. At least everyone I lent it to liked the book.

A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AND/OR LAUGH

koi good news.jpg

Koi Good News by Zarreen Khan! It’s a book I bought recently and it’s really good and humorous.

It’s based on the Indian new couple life, hardships with families etc. It’s pretty funny. I still have to write a review on it.

A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU EMOTIONAL

IMG_20180806_213010_877

I’ll have to search through my books again for this. Wait a minute.

Champion by Marie Lu! That book makes me cry every time I read it.

A BOOK WHOSE ENDING YOU DISLIKE

too late

Haha I wrote a whole rant review on Too Late by Colleen Hoover where I went to TOWN about the ending.

Click here to read my review.

A BOOK/GENRE YOU LOVE READING WHEN IT’S RAINING

IMG_20171229_100448_579.jpg

The Selection by Kiera Cass. Tbh I love to read it anytime as a comfort read, but especially when it’s raining. I find it cozy.

And that’s the end of this tag!

Tag! You’re it.

Yes, you reading this post. I wasn’t tagged and wanted to do it, so I did. You should too. If you want to do this tag, go ahead! Do link back to me so I can see your answers 🙂

my-review-lightuptheshiningnightstars

Note: there are spoilers for books 1 and 2 in this review.

I didn’t expect much going into the book. I thought the series was supposed to be a duology (which was why I picked it up when One Dark Throne released) but it got extended to four. I found the ending of book 2 very messy as well. Honestly, I do not remember the second half of book 2 at all.

The Plot

The title symbolizes the two reigns of two queens. Katharine, who sits on the throne as the rightful Goddess-blooded queen, and Jules, a war-gifted naturalist who is now a rebel. Both of them try to conquer from their positions and are going against each other.

Meanwhile Arsinoe and Mirabella are staying in Billy’s home in the mainland. They find out that the outside world is very different and they are not welcomed. In the midst of trying to make it in the mainland, Arsinoe gets strange dreams where she’s looking through the eyes of a girl called Daphne in the era of The Blue Queen, which was MANY reigns ago.

Arsinoe thinks that the dreams are from The Blue Queen, who wants her to go back to the island to do something.

My thoughts on the book:

  • Katharine was okay. She had undead queens inside of her, which was still creepy. But other than that, her being queen in such a situation created a very interesting dynamic, especially when it’s affecting other things.
  • Peter and Katharine are still in love. It was weird. I didn’t know what to make of them.
  • Mirabella was boring in this book. I liked her in the previous books but she literally did nothing in this book except saying that she’s going to protect Arsinoe.
  • Arsinoe was boring as well. Not as much as Mira but enough. She was better than Mire because of the dreams thing.
  • The most interesting part of the book was everything related to The Blue Queen. I LOVED finding out the history and about Queen Illian’s reign. I would LOVE to read an entire book, or maybe two or three, about Queen Illian. She was the last of a quartet, instead of the usual triplet, and therefore she was pronounced as the queen right from the start. Ask me to talk about The Blue Queen’s story and I will tell you everything in excitement. I loved the story.
  • In comparison, the current triplet seemed meh.

Overall

I didn’t like the book except for The Blue Queen storyline.

I took about a month to read this book. Maybe it was because I was in a slump, or because I was busy. But I think I also didn’t want to pick it up because it was boring.
