Goodreads is Facebook for book lovers. It doesn’t deal with things like selfies and vacation photos but instead is all about BOOKS. We update statuses about our reads, mark books we want to read, keep track of what our friends are reading and use it as our personal book catalogue.
It’s the best idea ever.
I was tagged to do this tag by Rebecca @ bookishlyrebecca and it’s PERFECT because I’ve been using Goodreads properly for about three years—marking all the books I’ve read, rating them and much more.
Now since I usually schedule my posts in advance, like I’m doing with this one, my answers to the questions may not match with my actual Goodreads status when it goes up. Don’t get confused lol.
1. What was the last book you marked as read?
I finished rereading Prodigy by Marie Lu, which is part of one of my favourite dystopian trilogies.
Since I’ve been in a book slump for a few weeks, I started rereading books that I like and own in an effort to get out of this slump. I’m going to read my way out of it. It’s slowly working because I’ve finished rereading quite a few books and have started on one new one as well. Keeping my fingers crossed!
2. What are you currently reading?
I’m rereading Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi (finished rereading the first two books in the series) and I’ve also started reading A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas which released only a few days back in my country.
3. Which was the last book you marked as TBR?
The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X. R. Pan. I’ve seen it being praised quite a bit online and it’s also one of the books of the month my Goodreads club is reading this month so I marked it. I don’t often join in on reading the books of the month because I’m a mood reader and I can’t stick to a TBR for the life of me, but I DO usually mark them because I know that if so many people chose it, it should be good.
4. What book do you plan to read next?
Well I’m a mood reader AND I’m currently in a book slump so who knows? I do want to get to the following books soon though:
- Champion by Marie Lu (reread)
- Cast Long Shadows by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan (new release)
- Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (if I can get it)
5. Do you use the star rating system?
I do! I always rate the books I’ve read. I wish we had a feature to rate half stars as well though. I usually end up marking the higher star rating and write my actual rating in the review.
6. Are you doing a 2018 reading challenge?
Yes I am! I’ve participated in the reading challenge for the past few years and I’m doing it this year as well. I’ve set my goal as 150 books and I’m really proud to say that I’ve finished reading 80/150 books at this point! A lot of it was read during my semester break when I had nothing to do. For the last month I’ve been in a slump because I don’t have time to read and when I do, I ended up watching Korean dramas. Now it’s taking a while to get back to reading.
7. Do you have a wishlist?
Not really. I have books that I want to get but it depends on the availability in my country and the prices. I mostly just go with the books I can afford at the moment, whether they’re in my TBR or not.
8. What book do you plan to buy next?
No clue! I’ve been wanting to go to the bookstore for the past three weeks but I turned out to have plans on all of my Sundays. (I only have Sunday off since I have college six days a week) I’m hoping to go this Sunday but let’s see because something else might pop up during the week.
I usually decide after going to the bookstore depending on what I can find that I’m interested in reading and if I can afford it.
9. Do you have any favourite quotes?
Okay so I know that book lovers usually have some favourite quotes but I don’t. While I’m reading a book, I get immersed into it and I might notice and acknowledge a good sentence but I won’t mark it or remember it. I concentrate more on the story than the lines.
This always puts me in a spot when I’m asked for quotes or if I want to doodle a quote in my book because I have to google for some.
10. Who are your favourite authors?
- Cassandra Clare
- Tahereh Mafi
- Sarah J. Maas
- Marie Lu
- Colleen Hoover
11. Have you joined any groups?
I’m always enthusiastic about joining groups but the fact is that I’m just better off alone doing my own thing. I ALWAYS join groups, join in for maybe the first week, and forget about it.
Right now I’m in three groups and the only group I even look at regularly is Addicted to YA. I only converse in the group once in a blue moon.
Tag! You’re it.
Do you use Goodreads? If you don’t, have you heard of it before? Do you like to keep track of your reading or do you prefer to just wing it? Are you part of the book community online on twitter and/or Instagram? Let me know in the comments!
