January ’18 wrap-up

Can you believe that we’re already into the second month of the year? Because I can’t. I spent the beginning of Jan writing finals and had my semester break until the 28th.

Am I sad that I’m already back in college for another semester when I haven’t yet recovered from the previous one? You bet. But I am also happy to see my friends and have something to do everyday besides sleep, eat and read.

January was pretty chill for me, blogging-wise. I scheduled posts until my exams ended in December itself. After my finals, I sat down one day and scheduled almost all of the rest so basically—I hardly blogged. If the scheduling option didn’t exist, my blogging would be really sporadic.

Book Reviews:

If I’m honest, I’m still behind on reviews. I’m just not very behind because, as it turns out, I don’t feel like reviewing most of the books I read in January.

Elsewhere in the blogosphere:

As I didn’t write a December 2017 wrap-up, I’m adding in blog posts that caught my eye then as well.

I found the blog post by theuglygirlsclub’s boyfriend on what it is like to date someone who has a mental illness super insightful.

Six months ago, my blog name was different. It was long, confusing and hard to remember, hence making it hard for others to find my blog by word of mouth. I struggled with the decision of whether to change the blog name and URL for months before finally making the change.

This blog post by Nicole @ feedyourfictionaddiction on When it might be time to change your blog name is really helpful and I only wish it was published way before for me to take advice.

I absolutely LOVED the blog post over at Thimbles and Spoons on Why Blogging is A Form of Therapy.

[4]

The Book Prophet’s post The Expectations of a Book Blogger delves into the reality of the book blogger community and what is “expected” of us. I found this post really honest and refreshing.

[5]

Marie’s post on blog hopping called How to blog hop, why I do it and think you should, too is BRILLIANT and this cements why everyone should try to blog hop whenever they can. I’ve found so many amazing blogs by going to random ones by twitter hashtags and WordPress tags.

[6]

May has put all our wishes about WordPress into one blog post called 9 Improvements to WordPress all bloggers would love and appreciate aka please fix this right now or I will cry in a witty and humourous manner and it’s perf.

Smol noticeable things that happened:

Again, including December happenings as well.

[1]

I finished my third semester finals! It was such a tedious effort with the exams spanning over almost A MONTH because TWO of them got postponed due to worldly reasons.

[2]

I turned 19! My birthday was on 30th December and I actually had a final on a really hard subject that day, so uh that was nice. A gift from the university.

[3]

My blog turned two! Why didn’t I post about this? Well, because I’m not really sure of the date. I remember that last year I published a post on January 16th to commemorate one year of blogging BUT WordPress sent me a notification a few days AFTER that. So I thought I would wait until WP sends me a notification again but I didn’t get one this time?? It’s in January. That’s all I know now.

[4]

My blog hit 1k followers in December! LIKE, WHAAAAAAT. I remember jumping around in my room when I saw that I had 20 followers in the beginning. 1k seemed like a far-off impossible thing but wow I MADE IT.

Thank you to everyone who follow me and take time to read my posts! I appreciate all of you so much.

[5]

I hit 500 follows on twitter in December! I don’t really tweet much interesting stuff so to have so many people interested in my tweets is HUGE.

[6]

My @bujobeauties Instagram account hit 50k followers and I’m just BLOWN AWAY. Currently the count is near 60k and I’m just speechless.

[7]

My tweet is quoted in the UK paperback edition of Caraval by Stephanie Garber! Jasmine from SimplyMeJasmine posted a picture in a tweet tagging me and I spent the rest of the night on air.

I wasn’t sure if the edition is available here but I did go around to a bunch of bookstores and I finally found it in the 5th one. I snagged it immediately! It was the last copy as well.

[8]

Victoria Schwab, author of the Shades of Magic trilogy which is one of my favourites, tweeted in December asking for bullet journal pictures because she wanted inspiration. I replied to the tweet and she responded saying she loves my mood tracker AND I’M SO HAPPY. It made my day.

And that’s all for my January wrap-up! I wish y’all a happy and productive Feb! I’ll see you in two days with another post.

How was your January? Did you make good on your resolutions? Did you reach any milestones—online or offline? Did you read any amazing blog posts or find new blogs that you like? Do you have any plans for February? Tell me everything!
